One day in 2011 I was walking through the Sanctuary of Valley Christian Church and suddenly a melody dropped out of Heaven and into my heart. As soon as I heard the melody in my heart, the words came almost as quickly.
"I'm so thankful for this Tree,
gently holding me
and helping me to see..."

I actually said "Oh no" out loud, and as soon as I did, the whole plot for "Zacchaeus: The Musical" began to download into my mind.

I finished the first draft in about 6 months time. I was so excited about this new musical,
that I tried to stage it. But within a few weeks of the beginning of rehearsals,
key people had to quit, and I was forced to cancel.

Zacchaeus was never out of mind completely, but it lay dormant for a while.
After a few years, I began to edit the script and found there were lots of holes that needed to be filled.
I wrote lots of dialogue that served to be the connecting tissue that was missing.

But it still didn't seem finished, and in 2015 I began to turn all spoken parts into music.
By 2016 I was finished and I began to orchestrate the accompaniment tracks.
In June of 2016 I finished the vocal sheet music. And in July began to record a demo of all the songs.

This is the biggest most difficult musical project I have ever composed, but it is also the one I am most excited to see staged.
